Turin - is a capital of the cars; Turin - is an Italian Detroit; Turin - is a city of Fiat. For ten years the image of our territory had been associated with a mechanical industry, with a model of ford-factory worker, that was eventually projected on the society model. But during century history, Turin was also another one: “the most beautiful travel in the world”, as it was described by Montesquieu, bringing together small dimensions and elegance. In the XVIII century, English and German travelers crossed the Alps, looking for a trace of a classic world at the peninsula. At the entrance to the Po valley they found out a baroque jewel, as elegant as unexpected. The inheritance of this period is a “crown of magic places”, that embellished the territory from Agliè to Valcasotto, passing through the Royal Pole torinese, Venaria, Rivoli, Mocalieri, Stupinigi, Racconigi. It includes the royal residences, inhabited in this period by Savoia Family and the sabauda aristocracy - places of residence, of holidays, of hunting. Some of them have severer areas, like Moncalieri or the Palazzo Madama, mediaeval hill forts amplified or revisited in the modern period; the others have a fresh and light lines, like a villa of Stupinigi; some others, like the Palace of Venaria Reale, reflect celebratory ambitious of absolutism, places, where aristocracy was the main actor of a great performance of magnificence, that was the “court”. During the last years, with a brave financial engagement, Piedmont Region had started a great course of recovery and valorization of these assets, that culminated in October of 2007 with the opening of Venaria Reale. The transformation from “privilege of few” to “common assets” - is a pride of a paid politics choose: in these days Turin and Piedmont remain a places of an industrial product activity, but, in general, they are developed into the cultural area, the places of the palaces, castles, museums, exhibitions, performances, where the quality of life is the best and where is worth to have some vacancy days.
